Accreditation at the San Diego Institute of Technology
What Accreditation Means
Accreditation is a formal recognition that a college or university meets rigorous standards for academic quality, governance, financial integrity, and student support. In the United States, this process is conducted by independent, regional accrediting agencies that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
For SDIT, accreditation is an essential step in building credibility, ensuring educational excellence, and enabling students to access opportunities such as credit transfer, graduate study, and, ultimately, federal student aid.
Our Path to Accreditation
The San Diego Institute of Technology (SDIT) is a newly established nonprofit university and is currently pursuing accreditation from the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), the regional accreditor for California and the Western U.S.
The accreditation process typically involves several stages:
-
Eligibility Application – A formal submission to demonstrate that the institution meets baseline requirements (mission, governance, finances, policies).
-
Candidacy – A multi-year period during which the institution operates under close review, with regular reporting and site visits.
-
Initial Accreditation – Granted once WSCUC determines the institution meets all standards for quality and effectiveness.
-
Ongoing Review – Accredited institutions continue to undergo cyclical reviews to ensure they maintain the highest standards.
Our Commitment
SDIT is in the early stages of this multi-year process. We are:
-
Building strong academic programs aligned with industry and community needs.
-
Establishing governance, financial oversight, and institutional policies that meet WSCUC standards.
-
Recruiting experienced faculty, advisors, and trustees committed to excellence.
-
Developing assessment systems to ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
Transparency
Until the accreditation process is complete, SDIT is not accredited by WSCUC or any other accrediting agency. We are committed to full transparency with our students, partners, and community as we progress through each stage. Updates on our status will be shared on this page.
